When the best corporate venues are outside the city
Stockholm Site inspection – corporate advice
Sometimes the best location for your corporate event is not necessarily in the city center. When logistics are handled properly and customers are open-minded, you can find the perfect venue outside the city, somewhere with beautiful landscapes or something more authentic and unique to offer.
Two weeks ago, I travelled to Sweden for a series of event site inspections around Stockholm. I visited several inspiring properties, each with a very distinct personality. Below are four venues worth considering for your next corporate event, depending on your objectives, audience, and brand positioning.
Djuronaset
Relaxed business meetings surrounded by enchanting nature
- Djuronaset – breakfast area
- Djuronaset – breakout rooms
- Djuronaset – conference room

Djuronaset is a wonderful location south of Stockholm, about 1 hour and 20 minutes’ drive from Arlanda Airport. This hotel makes you feel like a grown-up boy scout ready to wear your suit during the day and shorts underneath.
Divided into seven different buildings, each with around 30 rooms and a shared breakout area, it’s the ideal location for a team retreat or an intimate customer meeting.
The rooms
Spacious and clean, slightly rustic and minimalistic, yet extremely warm and comfortable. Nothing overly luxurious, but perfectly in harmony with the natural surroundings.
The spa
A true place to relax and recharge. Before the day begins or after an intense planning session, you’ll find a steam room, sauna, dry room, beautiful swimming pool, foot scrub area, and a magical outdoor infinity pool (which I honestly didn’t try because it was –15°C and I can’t stand the cold, though others were braver than me and enjoyed the romantic, surreal night atmosphere).
Breakfast
Protein-rich, with plenty of savoury, warm, cold, and fresh options. Beautiful tea selection..however, as an Italian, I always have high expectations for coffee and the machine didn’t work leaving me with a big coffee desire.
Meeting rooms
Fully equipped and cosy, with pleasant common areas for coffee breaks and informal conversations among colleagues.
There are also plenty of outdoor spaces for activities. In summer, the lake must be wonderful for relaxing, sunbathing, boating, and water activities. There is a lakeside restaurant offering stunning sunset views and lively summer evenings with music and full tables. There is also a dedicated outdoor festival area that can be fully privatized for corporate parties.
Overall, Djuronaset is an amazing place that feels like “summer camp” while maintaining corporate standards. Depending on your industry, I would recommend checking the atmosphere carefully: if you are looking for a very formal or ultra-luxury location, this might not be the right fit. Instead, it is perfect for a three-day retreat to connect, network, and build real team spirit.
I will definitely return in summer to enjoy the lake and the natural surroundings.
The Dock
Scandinavian design, creativity, and urban energy
A fully renovated hotel. From the outside, it looks like an unpromising 1970s building; inside, it is a true Scandinavian designer vintage experience.
From the entrance, you immediately feel the atmosphere of a high-standard location, without any unnecessary pretension. With more than 220 renovated rooms, every space reflects design, creativity, and inspiration. The river view is beautiful, and every detail is carefully curated without feeling excessive.

The rooms
Five different room styles. Even the standard room feels upgraded. The suite is simple yet stylish and delivers a real “wow” effect.
Meeting rooms
Walking into the meeting and congress area feels like entering a stylish home, with a kitchen space and living room leading to functional and elegant meeting rooms. The main conference room combines the energy of a modern startup with the structure of a 1970s plenary space.
There is also an impressive cinema-style meeting room that would make any guest happy to attend a long workshop.
Food area
I didn’t try the food (although the coffee met my high Italian expectations), but the restaurant areas are worth visiting. The ground-floor restaurant feels like a stylish diner-bistro with natural daylight and seating designed to encourage sharing and conversation.
The real highlight is the rooftop.. not a luxury rooftop, but a social dining space with a wood-fired pizza oven, comfortable couch seating, and a view that makes you want to stay all day.
The Dock is about 50 minutes from Arlanda Airport, located in a more industrial area west of Stockholm. If you want to bring customers outside the city while maintaining an urban atmosphere, without heavy traffic or excessive costs, this is an excellent choice.
The design and overall quality of the property will leave your guests feeling comfortable and connected.
Ellery Beach Club House
A luxury escape with a party soul
After a 35-minute drive from Arlanda Airport, through endless snowy landscapes (I even saw a fox!), I arrived at a place that makes you feel almost tropical.
I’m not sure whether the intention was to recreate a posh mountain chalet, but everything makes you want a cocktail and a pair of flip-flops to walk between the pool and restaurant.
Formerly an IBM building, it is now a luxury club where high standards are reflected in the young, stylish team and in the food and service throughout.
(Coffee still questionable — sorry Sweden, but you can improve!)
With about 122 rooms, Ellery Beach House is very stylish, almost making you feel uncomfortable entering with snowy boots.
The entrance is impressive, with a central bar immediately setting a luxurious tone.
The restaurant is beautifully designed with plenty of seating. The spa and relaxation area are equally impressive, with romantic settings overlooking the lake and peaceful spaces to unwind.
Meeting rooms
The meeting rooms, located on the second floor, appear well organized. It was not possibile to access them due to ongoing meetings, so I can’t give a full evaluation. From the outside, they seemed slightly small for large conferences but ideal for internal meetings and workshops.
The rooms
The rooms are clean, stylish, and balanced with huge beds (much needed after mojitos by the pool).
Ellery Beach Club House is ideal for couples or business travelers looking to relax. It feels slightly less business-oriented, but perfect for a luxury corporate party or internal team gathering where employees can learn, connect, and enjoy a refined setting.
The Hagastrand
Big volumes, strong infrastructure, and untapped potential
From the outside, it feels like stepping into a Wes Anderson set. Very close to Arlanda Airport, Hagastrand is a fully renovated hotel blending classic elements with dark minimal luxury and a California-style spa concept.
The rooms
Large, clean, minimalistic, and comfortable. Everything you need, no more, no less.
The hall
The entrance hall is impressive and dramatic. Looking up at the ceiling, you feel almost overwhelmed by its scale.
Meeting rooms
Simple and modern, with excellent technical equipment. The minimal design allows companies to customize the space as needed.
Restaurant
High-quality food in a beautifully designed setting. The staff are incredibly warm and attentive.
The outdoor space overlooking the lake is wide and open. I only stayed outside briefly because of the cold, but it clearly has strong potential for summer receptions and corporate parties. An outdoor restaurant area is also planned.
The spa
Unfortunately, I couldn’t access the spa, as it is treated as a sacred relaxation space for people to connect and network and share positive vibes. Apparently, my vibes were not matching the space..
The gym
A big highlight. Spacious, fully equipped, and offering classes and personal training. A major plus for fitness-oriented guests (like me).
Hagastrand is a large hotel with strong potential, although it still seems to be defining its identity. It is particularly suitable for large corporate events due to its proximity to the airport and solid infrastructure.
Each of these venues serves a very different event purpose. Choosing the right it’s about matching the venue’s identity with your event objectives, your audience, and the experience you want to create.
Site inspections remain, in my view, one of the most critical steps in event strategy. No brochure can replace physically feeling a space, understanding its flow, and sensing whether it truly supports connection, focus, and engagement.
